Dear Professor Rodwell,
I hope you are doing well. This is Sadman Rahin from your Writing For Engineering class. I am writing to inform you about my future goals as a student in your class and as a software engineer. I am currently majoring in Computer Science at Grove School of Engineering.

Since receiving my first computer as a kid, I loved playing around with different computer functions and applications. The computer was an endless puzzle that I spent countless amounts of time figuring out. When I first learned about programming, it opened up an entire world to me. Excited by the amazing possibilities I could generate, I started learning Java as my first programming language. Programming became an art to express my creativity ever since. Making minigames and websites became my favorite hobby.

Due to my love towards, computers and the art of creating applications, I decided to dedicate myself to a Software Engineering career and chose Computer Science as my major for college. In order to become a successful software engineer, I would first need to graduate from Grove School of Engineering with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. I intend to graduate with an above 3.7 GPA and learn the intricacy of software development and programming through my classes. I believe Writing for Engineering is a crucial subject to becoming a successful engineer as my future profession would require being up to date with different research findings and programming methods. Both writing and understanding academic papers would help me thrive in my future workplace and in contemporary programming.

Furthermore, to increase both my chances of landing jobs right after college and developing my technical skills, I would like to work at different tech companies as a software development intern. As a specific field in software engineering, I plan to take an Artificial intelligence elective class here at City College and learn in-depth about AI models and machine learning. These fields are still developing and new research on neural networks and data analysis is constantly being
published. This again emphasizes the importance of taking this class alongside you as my instructor.

My dream in the distant future is to gain sufficient technical skills and experience to
create my own startup in the AI field. Growing up in a poor country, people in my village lacked access to medical institutions, and many suffered and died due to undiagnosed diseases. I hope to create an app to successfully diagnose diseases through AI which will help people seek medical help before it’s too late. Hard work and discipline are the keys to achieving my goals and I believe college and taking this rigorous course would greatly help me prepare for the future.
